"On Board" Wireless Camera
System

I found this Stealth Camera System at the local
computer store. I sealed it in two cylinders that used to have motor
armatures in them. Hopefully this, with some hatch tape to hold them
together, should keep the water out. The wireless system has a 300
feet line of sight range. Should give me a straight-line run of
about 500 feet (hopefully). That's if I start out about 250 plus
left to my left and go 250 plus feet to my right. Bench tests look
great. But I fried the first receiver I bought, so things have been
slightly delayed. Thanks to the Liberal Return policy of Comp USA, I
returned the system for a new one at no charge. I am back on track!
But I am not sure what the all the bouncing will do to the picture.
I should have a video by the 5th of October. Keep tabs on the video
page.
Update
The tests were quite a let down. When the camera
was still everything looked great. Once moving there was way to much
static. It was so bad I decided to return the camera system and look
for another low weight camera for on-board video.
Update 01/20/03
I haven't given up! I just received this camera
system from a EBay bid.
Its much better then the other camera. Smaller
and better range, about 1000 feet. But because everything's still
frozen around here, I couldn't test it in the water. So I gave it
the "kid" test! I let my kids run around with it while I recorded
some video. Its surprisingly, a descent picture for the price of the
unit (about $80-$140)! I encapsulated the camera in a plastic and
glass container to water proof it. I cant wait to try it on a boat
this summer!
