Dont worry Douggie. Your not alone. At least in opinion. Socialized mentality seems to be either crammed down our throats by media or by technology. And whats perplexing is this is not a normal daily function unless some form of partnership to routine is associated to its participation. Sort of a Pavlov's training for the simple minded. Its social engineering at its best. At least for those getting payed to provide the services

There is nothing gained by participating in social on line services. Oh those participants will glorify their experiences and bandy its worth to their meager existance. But thats due to a common failing in the most basic human skills, like personal communication, character assesment, reasonable trust. You cant get those things ala interaction per distance.

Like the Aussies say " Ya need a mate". Not a F@*k buddy. Or an emotional victim. A genuine up front in your face, stare back at me and react to my comments and personality engagement.

My own opinion, while not backed by any data or even a University study just based upon my 50 plus years on this planet, is that People think there is some out there who cares about what they have to say. So they garner online "friends". Not a real friend. Just someone to yak about whatever. And its basic human instict to revolve around those in that circle of friends once found. And they cant shut off the pie hole. Its verbal diarrea.

Facebook, Twitter and the other social interactive tools so common to people who are bored is nothing more then self indulgance. They need to feel important by interacting with others. They attempt to prove their worth, if you can even call it that, by speaking about themselves, events, occurances, whatever. And I'm not degrading anyone participatng in these tools. But when the day ends, before you go to sleep, when you assess your value in the greater meaning of existance. You have to ask yourself? What does it prove? Doesnt mental masturbation come in many forms? You enjoy engagement with others to speculate about them? Compare them to yourself to feel good?

I say no. Its just a form of selfishness to satisfy an inner need for proving ones self worth. But its popular, so it has no negative conatations. What its about is people being self centered. The reality is people think they are the pinnicale of creation. They are masters of this world. Sadly they are just arrogant.

I guess what an intelligent person would have stomach is what am I worth? And the answer is about $5. Thats given at a basic scale of ones chemical components. To the average non thinker who cannot get past what little they really matter in significance or can ever contribute to make this world a better place they actually owe the rest of the population a debt. How much is for those who want to play god. Over the eons all pass as dust. Few ever remembered. And it wont really matter given our tendancies. In a few thousand years another species will be dominant. Hopefully they have archeologists to quantify what we were.

Facebook is a social website where we can make and add the friends and in touch with them. There is a wall function included where ever one can see the new status and share anything he she wants. This social site is become number 1 and it still at top. There are changes which are made to improve it.

I was having a similar talk with my sales clerks yesterday. Do you know people(like them) are using email less and less. They don't even check their personal email daily any longer. All their contact with friends is now on Facebook.

This is a typical reaction to new technology or new social behavior. New things frighten some of us, or threaten our view of the world, and we lash back with attacks based on....feelings. The same thing happened when the telephone was introduced - lots of folks asked 'why, we preferred to talk face-to-face'. Sounds silly but it is true. Radio? When it was new plenty of folks said 'why - we prefer to read a newspaper'. E-mail? 'What the heck's wrong with the USPS, I can't type anyway'. Cell phones? 'We like to get away from phones sometimes.' And the excuses go on and on....

Rail if you want, like it or not, social networking has become an integral part of world culture. From China to Russia to Iran, it's how the world works today. The young are growing up with it and are comfortable with it. Us dinosaurs will disappear, and a new form of social behavior will come around that our children won't like....

And people complain there's no privacy anymore....stop putting your lives on-line for others to see.

Social networks are contributing to a generation of people that will have no actual social skills.

We will survive the technological changes we have brought about by our determination to outstrip our elders' achievements.

Yes, facebook is alien to me.. it dismisses most all the things I coherently acknowledge as my base need for social interaction.

                  thank god for the pub....

Do not worry Jay, I endorse and buy new technology long before other people have understood the merits......Yes, social and business electronic networking is here to stay but I will be the dinosaur and avoid it for personal and security reasons, you are telling the whole world your story and can not remove any comments, pictures you made when you utilise this media.

John, a very detailed response to my original question and on the button!!!

Having personal information exposed for all to see is stupid in so many ways. We are ALL being watched, often unscrupulously. Not paranoia, just personal experience.

                        Steve,
I agree 150%. Seems that nobody bothers reading much less answering email these days. Too much trouble to actually compose a sentence or two...now it's just three letter acronyms...LOL!

haha This forum is Facebook for us.

Can you imagine how the generation before us laughed about communicating via email? Type a conversation? Why not pick up the phone? Takes a minute and then your done. Idiots. Now I can type about as fast as I talk. Clearly if you check my number of posts here there and everywhere.

Ever do a GoTo meeting with a dozen people in a dozen cities? Drives me crazy but I gotta do it sometimes. Saves a ton of money on travel.

The problem I feel with Facebook is that kids use it as a means of sharing information about their daily endeavours which is fine for those inclined to tell the world but many use it as a tool to bully and spread misinformation about other people. Video conferincing does not work either, you have to meet people face to face. I was an International sales manger and believe me you will not get the order for capital projects sitting behind a computer you have to meet and understand their desires and view the situation.

Tony, you are correct as we are being watched on electronic media by police and many other security forces

We use the conferencing thing for 3 dimensional coordination of trades in construction projects where the designers are scattered all over the place. You lose so much without a face and body language. Sucks.
