BEWARE of Krylon Clear Fusion Over Color Fusion

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I APPLIED A HEAVY COAT OF KRYLON CLEAR FUSION SPRAY OVER KRYLON YELLOW FUSION SPRAY THAT HAD DRIED FOR 24 HOURS. If you overspray Clear Fusion over Colored Fusion, only use light coats. When I apply colored Fusion over another color of Fusion, this does not happen.

I actually had that happen to me in a small area that was painted 24 hours previously. However, the rest of the hull that had set for a week was good.

yeah, you don't want to do a heavy coat of clear..
let it set in the sun and see if that helps smooth it out

NO NO NO you can not apply clear or more cover spray bomb coats unless the paint has a visible drying(flashing) look, under normal humidity conditions, that is within an hour of each coat.....after that you have to wait a long time.

I had the same thing happen to me with the same paint a while back. I sprayed on the clear coat a few days after doing the color coat and completely ruined the the job. Sorry that happened to you.

Yikes! I'm about to paint a hull for the first time this week with Krylon...

I get the mist coat first, follow by a full coat technique, but what's the right drying time between coats and is it different between color and clear?

              Confused...

              Thanks,
              Chief

                I had good results

I used Fusion with good results I painted the base coats on one day about an hour between coats then rubbed out the over spray with a micro fiber cloth than shoot my clear coats about 10 hours later allowing about an hour between coats and also rubbing out clear between each coat with a new cloth worked great.

Clear coat is crap on top of normal high gloss paints...base coats (no gloss) are another story and the only way to go for a nice finish

The first time I tried Krylon on my HOTR Cat I cleared after a day from the last coat of paint and it wrinkled so had to take it off and start over. My second time I painted with multiple colors letting each one dry for a couple days before masking the next color then cleared after a week with 3 coats that day with no problems.

I will never use Krylon paints on a boat again.

I jut had a horrible experience painting my mini hydro. I got 2 base coats, 3 blue coats, 1 clear coat (all of which failed), then 3 coats of primer, 5 coats of orange and 4 coats of clear.

I will go back to rustoleum or model/car paint next time.

                        Hi,
Did you use a primer coat before applying the yellow? Just wondering if that would make a difference...

Krylon fusion is for plastic. The pickle is an abs hull, so there would be no reason to prime it.

What confused me is that in the "Tips" section on painting, it says to use primer for either fiberglass or ABS to help avoid crackling/lifting.

I have another question about painting while we are on the topic--
When using spray paint and doing the first "mist" coat, do you sand that coat before applying the next "wet" coat? I know you should sand between "wet" coats but wasn't sure about the mist...
