Bushnell radar guns for checking speeds

Is the Bushnell gun any good for checking speeds on boats rather than a gps in the boat as its tight getting them in smaller boats, Or are they a waste of money. Thanks Martin.

They are ok as long as the boat is coming directly at you - going away the roost messes them up. I have had one for a couple of years now and it is great for small boats and is within 1 MPH of my forerunner 201.

Only problem with a radar gun is that you have to bring a friend to the lake with you. Or your wife....

Whats the best alternative a small hand held gps in the boat, Any suggestions on type & make & prices to go into small boats. Perish the thought of having to ask the wife to come to the lake & ask where did that new boat come from. Thanks Martin.

I use the forerunner 101 that I got from e-bay for around 100-bucks. Its pretty small. Garmin makes a series of gps running watches now that you can remove the band and have a REALLY small gps.

I have had the Garmin forerunner 201 for 2 years and it's great. It's small size and rechargeable lithium battery are perfect for boating and I paid about $80.00 for it new on ebay.

I have one we use for baseball, and get very inconsistant results with boats. Has to be head on and no movement of the gun, but still inconsistant
Boats don't win races, drivers do.
