What are normal temps for boat motors and esc

Guys what are considered to be normal running temps for boat brusshless motors and esc-s running on 6s lipos.
What would be the highest( high limit) temps acceptable before it is to higs and to late.

    Thanks

Are you running a single or twin set up? It doesn't matter if 4s,6s,or any other voltage for that matter. Single set ups usually run hotter that twins. 150 degrees would be the hottest before troubles arise, my single set up in my delta force runs about 115 degrees on the motor and 135 on the ESC. I'd like to get the ESC a little cooler but it is what it is lol.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in but try to stay below 150 degrees

        What is your setup ?
Motor, esc , connectors, cells, hull.
And how long are your run times.

It depends on a lot factors, not so much if you are running 4s versus 6s, that is all relative to the setup (ESC and motor) that the batteries are paired to......

Regarding motors....Outrunners temps of 140-150F are normal since they don't get the same water cooling as inrunners which temps should be around 100-120F with ideal cooling.

As for ESCs, there are a lot of variables here. The Capacitors are usually the hottest component on the ESC since energy is stored here to be used when demand exceeds what the battery can provide in an instant. Therefore temps will depend on the rating of the Caps. Ceramic Caps are usually rated upwards of 220F and that would be about the max limit you would ever want to see. Continual exposure to temps like that are going to lead to cap failure (bursting or rupture). So for ESCs, the caps should ideally be around 140-150F max which gives plenty of temp buffer like the other poster stated. A nice cool temp for caps to shoot for would be around 100-120F similar to the inrunner temps.

I carry a cheap temp guage with me when I run, its a good way to make sure stuff isn't failing on me and everything is running reliable and within limits.

              Traxxas spartan

Currently I am running traxxas spartan stock version and my esc stoped working but
The temps were nowhere near 100 degrees celsius.
But now I am working on a next project and any sugestions are more than welcome.

I instaled a new esc 180a and just wanted to
              Follow the temps a little.

Thanks alot on your replies and if any sugestions
On the projrct above please help because I am new
At all this but would like to make it run about 60-70 miles if possible

I've had motor temps of 145-155*f without damage in race trim
and have seen 195*f in some sport boats pushed and no motor damage..
but most I like seeing my motor temps below 140*f
my PSpec Mono that runs 1st-2nd place all the time runs 95*f max

are you running two 3s packs in series for a total of 6s?
if so this could be to much for a 1515 2200kv motor in the 39" OBL hull

Do you have any pictures or video's on the boat ?

Motor from E revo monster truck !
What is the kv of this motor or specs ?
Do you have a link for it ?

Also 25c on the cell is a weak link for the setup,
As for the esc temps try adding some 1000ur caps and shorting the wires in the setup to.
What connectors are you using in the setup ?
You should be using 5.5 bullets on every thing.

My Spartan was my first FE boat, and the one I learned a lot about caps and temps. Funny this is also one you have questions on. Is your ESC the castle creations version? If so, see if you can determine that is the reason why your boat isn't working by hooking it up to another motor, and reciever. If so, send it in to Castle and they will send you a replacement. I ended up going with a Seaking 180 ESC after going through 3 castle creations replacement Spartan ESCs. One of the ESCs (I think the original one that came with my sppartann) had temps consistently in the 200F + range, which is why I sent it in for replacement. My Seaking 180 has run flawlessly and COOL after about 50+ runs. If you decide to stick with the Castle ESC, then add caps as suggested, its an easy mod and helps temps stay cooler.
