4074 - 2200 kv vrsus 3674 - 2200 kv motors ?

guys, what is the advantage of running the larger size 4074 motor against the smaller 3674 motors both running the same kv,s ? thanks.

I can't imagine 4mm making that much difference but I

thanks, i am tossing up which motor to buy out of the leopard 3674 - 2200 kv and the leopard 4074 - 2200 kv motors. this is to suit a jae 21 / fe .

Large motor can dissipate heat better and has slightly more torque I think. The 36mm motors of same brands are usually more efficient though.

Leopard pegs the 3674-2200 at approx. 95% efficiency.

Depending on the hull one may work better than the other and what your intentions of running are.

Many people swear by the NEU/Castle 1415 1Y motor, 2400kv in that hull. Runs like the clappers and really good run time.

thanks Ray, i would love a neu motor but there abit out of my price range this is why i am looking at something cheaper but still pretty good with some power. i am quite impressed by my current t.p. 4050 - 2310 kv motor in this rigger but it does seem to suck up battery power pretty quick so i was thinking to try something abit smaller like the 2 in question. 3674 or 4074 ?? can,t see any neu 1415 - 1y - 2400 kv motors only 2200 kv is the closest.

Castle makes a 1415-1Y but the ones without a sensor are getting few or far between. The Leo 3674-2200would work well.

I don't know why the newer ones with sensor are cheaper? Don't know if the new sensor ones are as good??? Sorry.

i was looking at the NEU motors not the Castle / Neu , this is why i couldn,t see a 2400 kv motor. thanks Ray.

I'm going to email Castle Creations and ask if the new sensored motors have same specs as the old ones.

They pack in an extra magnet and hall effect sensor into the same size case as the old one.

They're only $90 on eBay, etc...

yes they are quite cheap i have noticed . i don,t think you have to connect up the sensor wire to operate the sensoreless motor , you just leave it unplugged. what is the difference between the 1415 motors that some have 3 x black motor wires soldered on the motor and the others have red white and black wires with a neat plug end going into motor can. ??

The leopard 3674 has a longer rotor than the 4074 leopard. I have seen the two perform and I like the two, you may not regret either one.

I have also just found out most of the Castle Motors sold by Chinese sellers are fakes, only buy from u.s. suppliers . as they say how can someone sell a $200 motor for $80. there is evidence on you tube about these fake castle motors.

i ended up buying a T.P. 2050 x 2310 kv and a Nue 1415 - 2400 kv motors. both very quick motors in the riggers. just working on props and battery packs now.

Just an FYI about a few MM's not making a big difference. Increasing the magnet mass will do a lot for torque, but so will increasing the leverage on the shaft. The can is only 11% wider, but the rotor is where most of that width comes from so it's really more like 30-50%.

I found some great deals on various motors, as well as tried some Chinese GoolRC motors. First thing I did was pull them all apart. The Castle 1406 (3650 4600kv) and Dynamite 4-pole 3650 2000kv have rotors nearly twice as thick & heavy as a 2-pole SC truck motor. The GoolRC 3670 2850kv & 3674 2250kv have rotors that are the same width but twice as long as the 3650's. The Arrma 4074 2000kv has a rotor that's just as long but twice the mass of the 3074 (maybe 30% thicker).

Most of those are for various non-boat projects, but I did try the GoolRC 3674 in place of an Aquacraft 6-pole 3656 1800kv. It gained several MPH and enough torque to launch out of the water from a dead stop. With that said, you won't have any worries if you get a cheaper motor as long as your ESC can handle it. I'm running the OSE Raider 150A and it doesn't even get warm. The Leo's are probably worth it if your budget allows, but for $23/ea I'm loving these cheapies.
