After reading this linked page my head is spinning. Our boats may be models but they behave like the full size ones.

The electric boats are what has surprised me most, way back in the 1960's in Aberdeen,Scotland i used to watch enthusiasts with their yachts and petrol/gas boats, the latter seemed to have more time being tinkered around with before they ran for very short times, but i always longed formy own boat, now im retired i got the chance and the performance and reliabilty of modern electric boats using lipo batteries and brushless motors is quite amazing,as are some of the designs, catamarans(my favourite) mono hulls, hydroplanes, etc etc, have got this old fossil well and truly hooked on r.c. boats.Comment

They may be toys, but they still have to obey the laws of physics same as the bigger toys.Paul Upton-Taylor, Greased Weasel Racing.Comment

Old School.
When I first started running & racing FE boats, that article you posted a link for was like my little Bible for setting up boats & diagnosing problems & fixing them.
Once you get those philosophies fixed in your head, it is easier to see what is needed to tune your boat as you watch it run.See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!
