Try to look for a small fresh water body of water. A large pond is ideal. If your boat stops working and is unreachable, the wind will most likely blow it to shore somewhere. Otherwise if you run on a large lake, your going to need some way to retrieve your disabled boat. We like to run in places with a soft shoreline. For example weeds or sand. Rocks seem to attract Rc boats that have lost a radio signal. We've seen far to many boats crash into rocks and become total losses.
Electric boats will find many more places to run due to noise regulations imposed on Gas and Nitro boats. One major complaint by home owners on ponds and lakes is people running early in the morning. Please keep this in mind when deciding the place you want to run on. If there is a question whether or not to run ask some of the local cottage or home owners before you start your boat. Also check with local clubs to see where they may use their boats. Most organized clubs have permission from the local home owners and town officials.
It is a good idea to join one of the Racing Organizations,They already have sanctioned placed to run on and offer insurance for Rc boaters and will keep you up to date on Rc racing action.
Never run your boat around swimmers! Even a dull prop can cause serious injury to a person or take out an eye! Ducks are not targets. Some people might think its fun chasing them around, but if the local authorizes catch you, but there are hefty fines for this type of thing and it could possibly mean they toss you and others from running there.
